After getting out of the hospital, Lindsay Bruns sought out hyperbaric oxygen therapy from our Flower Mound, TX office to help in her recovery from a shark bite she received while in the Florida Keys with her family. The ABWM Foundation has named June as Wound Healing Awareness Month (WHAM!). The annual celebration was created to raise awareness for wound healing and recognize the challenges experienced by individuals whose lives are affected daily by chronic wounds.
In addition to Wound Healing Awareness Month, the ABWM Foundation designated June 13– June 17, 2022 as Certified Wound Care Specialists Week. This week celebrates all practitioners certified by the American Board of Wound Management which includes Certified Wound Care Associates®, Certified Wound Specialists®, and Certified Wound Specialist Physicians®. This is the second anniversary of Hyperbaric Awareness Month. Recognition of the program, launched by Hyperbaric Awareness USA and the Hyperbaric Aware campaign, was first adopted in 2021:
“Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a treatment option for wounds, infections, or injuries that have not responded to standard treatment. There are currently 15 indications for HBOT recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and commercial insurance.” Read more
