The structures and nerves in the ear are highly sensitive to oxygen and require a lot of oxygen to function. If the oxygen is depleted it can cause sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL), usually in one ear, sometimes in both. This condition is often accompanied by vertigo (dizziness), tinnitus (ringing in the ear), and pain. Possible causes include viral infection, sinus infection, trauma to the ear, allergies, or circulation problems.
A patient with SSHL should immediately consult an ENT (ear, nose, and throat specialist) and may be treated with steroids, antibiotics, allergy medications, and rapid referral to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). The faster HBOT is started, the better the patient’s chances of regaining hearing.
HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY TREATMENT FOR SUDDEN SENSORINEURAL HEARING LOSS
We administer HBOT in a private setting with the latest hyperbaric technology. Treatment takes place in a clear acrylic chamber where the patient may comfortably recline and view the surroundings at all times. The patient is monitored by the treatment team throughout the procedure.
R3 Wound Care and Hyperbarics can give you the treatment you need—no doctor referral is needed.
